C-SPAN’s accidental airing of several minutes of programming from a Russian state-run network was likely due to an “internal routing issue,” the network says.

C-SPAN’s coverage of the House of Representatives on Thursday was interrupted for several minutes by footage from RT — a state-owned outlet formerly known as Russia Today — causing confusion for viewers.

{mosads}”This afternoon the online feed for C-SPAN was briefly interrupted by RT programming,” C-SPAN said in a statement, according to the Washington Examiner.

“We are currently investigating and troubleshooting this occurrence. As RT is one of the networks we regularly monitor, we are operating under the assumption that it was an internal routing issue. If that changes we will certainly let you know,” the statement added.

The RT footage aired for “about ten minutes” on C-SPAN, according to Timothy Burke, an editor for Deadspin who said he saw the interruption in real time.
