"A reminder that the president's top aide just told The New York Times the press should keep its mouth shut," Tapper said during CNN's "The Lead."

"No," Tapper added, with a chuckle.


Bannon referred to the press as an "opposition party" during his interview with the Times while slamming the media's coverage of Trump's White House bid.

“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile,” Bannon told the newspaper.

“I want you to quote this,” Bannon continued, “The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”
