California Rep. Mark Takano (D) needled Republicans over President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, who he said should be treated just as former President Obama’s failed nominee was in the Senate.

“Just like Merrick Garland, Neil Gorsuch is a respected judge. He should receive the same type of fair & honest consideration in the Senate,” Takano tweeted Tuesday evening.

Trump nominated Gorsuch, who currently serves on the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, to replace Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court.

Last year, Republican senators refused to vote or have a hearing for Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, leaving Democrats fuming.

Gorsuch is likely to face a fierce confirmation battle in the Senate.
