Richard Branson challenged Obama to a kitesurfing contest

Former President Barack Obama has been taking some much-needed time off before getting back to work.

Photos surfaced last week on social media showing Obama and his wife, Michelle, enjoying the company of billionaire Richard Branson in the British Virgin Islands.

Branson confirmed the reports in a new blog post published Tuesday on Virgin.com, along with higher-resolution images of their shared activities.

{mosads}In the post, the entrepreneur recounts how Obama told him that being president meant he was unable to enjoy many of the sports he once did daily in Hawaii — including surfing.

Branson responded by offering to teach the president how to kitesurf, and the two engaged in a friendly challenge to see who could “stay up the longest.”

A video posted in the blog shows the results of that challenge.

The blog ends with Branson revealing that the two have already made plans “to do the long kite over to Anegada [Passage] together” next time Obama visits.
