Milano, a prominent supporter of Ossoff during the campaign who volunteered to drive voters to the polls on Election Day, tweeted a message of encouragement after the race was called Tuesday night.

Cruz replied Thursday, saying, “We all need a hug!”

Milano hit back at Cruz shortly after, telling him he wasn’t invited.

Ossoff lost Tuesday's runoff, which became the most expensive House race in history, to Republican Karen Handel. In his concession speech, Ossoff said that for Democrats, the “fight goes on.”

"This is about you, it's about an extraordinary community at an extraordinary moment in history. In the first opportunity in this country to make a statement about values can still unite people at a time when politics has been dominated by fear, hatred and scapegoating and division, this community stood up," he said.

"This is not the outcome any of us had hoped for, but this is the beginning of something much bigger than us."

Ossoff’s loss, a major blow for Democrats seeking to gain momentum in the lead up to the 2018 midterm elections, has spurred criticism from within the Democratic Party, with finger-pointing aimed at party leaders, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and even Ossoff himself.
