Trump golf clubs displaying fake Time magazine cover

The Trump Organization's golf clubs in America and Europe have been displaying a fake Time magazine cover depicting the president, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

A Time magazine cover depicting Trump with the headline “Donald TrumpDonald TrumpGOP-led Maricopa County board decries election recount a 'sham' Analysis: Arpaio immigration patrol lawsuit to cost Arizona county at least 2 million Conservatives launch 'anti-cancel culture' advocacy organization MORE: The ‘Apprentice’ is a television smash!” has been seen in at least four Trump Organization golf clubs, according to the Post's report. A spokeswoman for Time confirmed to the Post that the cover is fake and was never published as an issue of the magazine.

“I can confirm that this is not a real TIME cover,” Kerri Chyka wrote to The Washington Post in an email.

According to the Post's reporting, the fake cover is hanging prominently in at least two of Trump's golf clubs in America, as well as one resort in Ireland and previously in one resort in Scotland. The fake cover was taken down a few weeks ago at the Scotland location, the Post reported.

Employees at Trump's Turnberry club in Scotland told the Post that they recognized the picture, but that it had been removed without explanation.

The fake cover at Trump's Ireland location was also moved. According to the Post's report, it was recently moved from a restaurant area to a manager's office.

A Time spokeswoman told the Post the magazine has asked that the fake cover be removed from its remaining display locations.

At least at one location, the fake cover is hanging among other real magazine covers. In a press conference last year, Trump mistakenly inflated the number of Time magazine covers on which he'd been featured, suggesting that he believed the cover to be real.

"I think I was on the cover of Time magazine twice in my life and like six times in the last number of months," Trump said last July. This is incorrect; he was only featured on one Time cover before entering politics, in January 1989.

The fake cover is dated "March 1, 2009," which coincides with the premiere of Trump's reality show "The Celebrity Apprentice."
