Conway on president’s visit to Texas and Louisiana: ‘This is the Donald Trump that so many of us know’

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Sunday praised President Trump’s response to Hurricane Harvey and his recent visits to areas ravaged by the storm, saying White House staffers are “privileged” to work with.

“This is the Donald Trump that so many of us know and are privileged to work with, and to know very up close and personal,” Conway said on “Fox and Friends” on Sunday.

“I was really struck by many of the comments from people who say ‘I didn’t vote for him, I didn’t very much care for some of his policies, but I’m so moved and this really changed my opinion,’ ” she continued.

{mosads}“Nobody’s looking for voters, we look at them as our brothers and sisters in need who are suffering, but this man is somebody who has always expressed the capacity and the compassion to people in need,” she said.

Conway’s comments come one day after President Trump visited Harvey victims and volunteers in southeastern Texas and southwest Louisiana.

The president handed out food in shelters alongside first lady Melania Trump, and played with children.

The president also visited Corpus Christie, Texas, and Austin, Texas, last Tuesday, but did not meet with victims and avoided the disaster zone.

Harvey made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane in late August, bringing strong winds and catastrophic flooding.

The recovery effort has since started in the affected areas as the flood waters begin to recede.
