Fox News host Tucker Carlson slammed President TrumpDonald TrumpSt. Louis lawyer who pointed gun at Black Lives Matter protesters considering Senate run Chauvin found guilty as nation exhales US says Iran negotiations are 'positive' MORE for calling this week to confiscate guns without due process as a means of combatting gun violence.

“Imagine if Barack ObamaBarack Hussein ObamaMinneapolis mayor on Floyd: 'Ultimately his life will have bettered our city' Lawmakers react to guilty verdict in Chauvin murder trial: 'Our work is far from done' Obamas praise Floyd jury, urge more action: 'We cannot rest' MORE had said that? ‘Just ignore due process and confiscating guns.’ Obama would have been denounced as a dictator,” Carlson said on Thursday. “Congress would be talking impeachment right now. Someone would be muttering about secession.”

Trump on Wednesday voiced support for immediately confiscating guns from individuals deemed too dangerous, even if it violated due process rights.

“Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump said during a meeting with lawmakers on school safety and gun violence.

Vice President Pence pushed back on his remarks, saying the proper procedure of securing court orders was essential so "no one's rights are trampled."

"Or, Mike, take the firearms first, and then go to court," Trump responded.

Trump has vocalized support for tougher gun laws in the wake of last month's Florida school shooting that left 17 people dead, leaving conservatives baffled.

He has called for arming teachers and ending "gun-free" zones in schools to combat school shootings. Trump says he is also seriously considering raising the age requirement from 18 to 21 to buy a rifle, something the National Rifle Association has fought against.

“If voters wanted that kind of government, they could have voted Democrat and they still have a chance to vote Democrat in the midterms, which he should keep in mind,” Carlson said.
