A new billboard has been put up in Texas in response to a billboard that went viral telling liberals to leave the state.

The new billboard in Amarillo, Texas, reads: “Texas is for everyone, not for bigotry. Welcome y’all.”

According to a local ABC affiliate, Texas resident Roman Leal created a GoFundMe page last week because he wanted to present a more unifying message in Amarillo after a billboard was set up in nearby Vega that read, “Liberals, please continue on I-40 until you have left our GREAT STATE OF TEXAS.”

"We need a sign that represents the true, hospitable spirit of the great state of Texas. 'Texas is for everyone – not for bigotry. Welcome, y'all!' will go up on the Lamar digital billboard at I40 and Coulter,” Leal wrote on the fundraiser page. “It will be visible to travelers and commuters driving along the interstate in Amarillo, giving us a chance to put our best boot forward.”

Leal’s campaign quickly earned more than its $1,800 goal and has raised over $3,000 as of Monday morning.

“Meeting the campaign goal will keep the billboard up for 4 weeks,” Leal wrote. “Any contributions exceeding the goal will be used to pay for a longer duration.”
