At least four people, including two officers, were killed in a shooting in eastern Canada, police said Friday.

Police called it an "active incident."

CBS News reported that police in the city of Fredericton, the capital of New Brunswick, asked residents to shelter in place on Friday morning.

The department's official Twitter later stated that one suspect was taken into custody. Police also revealed that two of the people killed in the shooting were officers, but that it would not be releasing names for the time being.

"Please appreciate this is a difficult time for their families and our colleagues," the department wrote on its official Twitter account.

Fredericton is located about 50 miles northeast of the U.S. border with Maine.
