Suspect arrested after death of US diplomat in Madagascar
A suspect has been arrested in connection with the death of an American diplomat in Madagascar, the State Department said Monday.
A U.S. Foreign Service Officer was found dead in their home on Friday, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a said in a statement.
Nauert added that an investigation into the incident has been opened and that a suspect is currently in custody.
"Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and the U.S. Embassy Antananarivo community. U.S. investigators have opened an investigation into the matter as have the local Malagasy authorities, and a suspect is currently in custody. Out of respect for the family of the deceased as well as the ongoing investigative process, the Department does not have any additional comments at this time," Nauert's statement reads.
Nauert did not provide the name of the diplomat who died or of the suspect.
Police told AFP that a man "was caught trying to jump the perimeter fence fleeing from the house" following what may have been an attack.
