Though Conway's wife is one of Trump’s top aides, he has repeatedly taken jabs at the president on Twitter, often subtly criticizing him through retweets of critical stories.

Trump’s Monday tweet has garnered significant criticism, particularly as it comes after a series of pipe bombs were mailed to prominent Democrats and CNN, and after a shooting that left 11 dead at a Pittsburgh synagogue.

Trump condemned the mail bombs and shooting at the synagogue, but has rejected calls to tone down his rhetoric.
