French army takes apparent jab at Trump with tweet about rain

The French Army on Monday took an apparent jab at President Trump over his decision to skip a cemetery visit in the country over the weekend due to rain.
“There is rain, but it’s not serious,” Armee de Terre, the official account of France’s army, tweeted. “We stay motivated.”

The tweet comes as Trump faces criticism for canceling a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial over the weekend as world leaders commemorated the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, an event that marked the end of World War I.
{mosads}The White House said in a statement that the visit was canceled due to “scheduling and logistical difficulties caused by the weather.”
France’s Ministry of Defense did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Several current and former officials from around the world criticized Trump for missing the ceremony.
“They died with their face to the foe and that pathetic inadequate @realDonaldTrump couldn’t even defy the weather to pay his respects to The Fallen,” Nicholas Soames, a British politician and grandson of Winston Churchill, tweeted.
Later that weekend, French President Emmanuel Macron rebuked “nationalism” during public remarks in Paris.
“Patriotism is the exact opposite of nationalism,” Macron said. “Nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism. By saying our interests first … we erase what a nation holds dearest, what gives it life, what gives it grace, and what is essential: its moral values.”
