Attorney Michael Avenatti took aim at President TrumpDonald John TrumpTwitter CEO: 'Not true' that removing Trump campaign video was illegal, as president has claimed Biden formally clinches Democratic presidential nomination Barr says he didn't give 'tactical' command to clear Lafayette protesters MORE over his attacks directed at French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, claiming that Trump's rhetoric has made U.S. allies question whether the United States stands with them.

In a tweet, Avenatti hammered Trump for criticizing Macron on social media while he was in the country to meet with the French leader.

".@realDonaldTrump - are you really this ignorant & tone deaf? This isn’t some reality bravado TV show. This is about safety & security in the world. For the first time in decades, our allies wonder if America will stand with them. You are a disgrace and a danger to us all. #Rain" Avenatti wrote.

Avenatti's comments came after the president again criticized Macron. Trump, on Tuesday, took aim at Macron for proposing an army to protect Europe against China, Russia and the U.S.

In a radio interview, Macron decried Europe's history of relying on the U.S. for military strength in times of conflict.

"We must have a Europe that can defend itself on its own without relying only on the United States," he said last week, adding that Europe could "defend itself better alone."

Trump tweeted a similar sentiment on Friday, moments after he landed in Paris for a weekend trip commemorating the end of World War I.

Trump and Macron have had a contentious relationship since Macron's election last year. The two leaders have clashed over the U.S.'s exit from the Paris climate accord.
