Joy Behar torches Ivanka Trump over emails: ‘How dumb’ can she be?

“The View” co-host Joy Behar lit into Ivanka Trump following reports she potentially violated federal records law by using her personal email account last year.

“You know what’s amazing is that this girl was there in 2016, I mean, was she in a convent?” Behar said in reference to President Trump’s eldest daughter during a segment on “The View” on Tuesday.

“She was watching TV just like the rest of us. How dumb can a person be to go and make the same mistake that he has been bitching about the whole time? People, wake up,” she continued.

{mosads}Her remarks follow an article The Washington Post published on Monday reporting that the president’s daughter used her personal account in 2017 to correspond with White House staffers, her assistants and Cabinet officials.

A spokesperson for Ivanka Trump’s lawyer told the Post that she “sometimes used her personal account, almost always for logistics and scheduling concerning her family” while she was transitioning into a government position.

He also said Ivanka Trump’s emails have since been forwarded to her official government account to comply with the federal records law.

Co-host Sunny Hostin said she calls “B.S on ‘I didn’t know better.’ I think it’s the height of hypocrisy, quite frankly.”

“She knew that’s one of the things her father ran on, it was a significant part of his platform,” Hostin continued, in reference to the president’s and other Republicans repeated attacks in the months leading up to the 2016 presidential election on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server to conduct government business.

“That’s what happens when you have that kind of nepotism going on in the White House,” Hostin added.

Co-host Meghan McCain, who is the daughter of the late Arizona Sen. John McCain (R), also said she found the report “hypocritical” and added that “when one of your dad’s taglines is ‘lock her up’ specifically about an email controversy that you should know the difference for that reason alone.”

“But we should be more concerned about, and my father said this, when a car alarm is going off every day, you get desensitized to what’s important,” McCain said. “What we should be most fearful of is our president is still using his personal phone. I care much more about that.”

McCain went on to say that she wouldn’t have chosen the report about Ivanka Trump’s personal emails as her “number one topic,” to which Behar responded: “Oh, it’s mine, absolutely.”
