A detective in the New York Police Department's sex crimes unit is reportedly under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct involving a fellow officer.

BuzzFeed News reports that Abel Perez, a detective working with the NYPD's Special Victims Division, is under internal investigation after being accused of grabbing the butt of a female officer inside the division's Manhattan office.

The outlet also reports that a commanding officer overseeing both the unidentified woman and Perez tried during a three-hour closed-door meeting to dissuade the female detective from going forward with an official complaint, according to one source familiar with the investigation.

A spokesman for the Lieutenants Benevolent Association told BuzzFeed that the police union "categorically denies" that the female detective was advised against filing a claim, and would welcome an investigation into the accusation.

“We will welcome the complete investigation into this matter,” spokesman Lou Turco told BuzzFeed, adding that the supervising officer was “very willing to take whatever action the detective wanted to pursue.”

The NYPD declined to comment when contacted by The Hill on the investigation and the claims outlined in the BuzzFeed report.

A spokesman for the union representing Perez told BuzzFeed that the union did not yet know the "full extent" of the incident.

“Various accusations are being made so at this point we are trying to get to the bottom of exactly what’s going on," Detectives’ Endowment Association President Michael Palladino told BuzzFeed.
