Women’s group projects ‘Abortion is Freedom’ and ‘F— your wall’ on Trump Tower

Shout Your Abortion, a coalition that advocates for abortion rights, on Saturday projected messages such as “Abortion is Freedom” and “F— your wall” onto Trump Tower and the Union Square building in New York.

The messages were projected late Saturday night, and included the phrases, “Abortion is non-partisan,” “Abortion is normal” and “Your friends, family and partners are having abortions.”

“Dumbass” and “F— your wall,” a reference to President Trump’s long-sought wall along the southern border, were also projected onto Trump Tower.

Amelia Bonow, founding director of Shout Your Abortion, told The Hill that the group took this step as a way to remind President Trump that a majority of Americans support Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide.
“On the eve of the 46th anniversary of Roe v Wade, it seems pertinent to remind the president that 71 percent of Americans support Roe v. Wade, a number which is almost exactly double his most recent approval ratings,” Bonow said in an email, likely referring to a July NBC News and Wall Street Journal poll.
“The vast majority of Americans consider the matter settled law, and a quarter of American women has an abortion at some point. Politicians who support abortion bans in an attempt to appease evangelical voters are selling out the needs and values of their constituents and will pay at the polls.”
Jezebel notes that Shout Your Abortion began as a social media campaign in 2015 in an effort to get rid of the stigma surrounding abortion.
The stunt, which occurred on the same day as the third annual Women’s March, was carried out in coordination with The Illuminator Collective, according to the culture blog.
