Obama's high school basketball jersey sells for $120,000 at auction

The basketball jersey thought to have been donned by the 44th president of the United States while he was attending a Honolulu prep school sold Saturday night to a collector who chose not to be identified, according to the Associated Press.

Heritage Auctions said the details of the high school jersey that sold matched that of a jersey Obama is wearing in a photograph.

The jersey was put up for auction by Peter Noble, a graduate of Punahou School in Hawaii three years behind Obama. Noble said the jersey was set to end up in the trash before he acquired it. He then saw a picture of Obama wearing the No. 23 jersey while at the school.

A portion of the jersey sale will go to the school, Noble said.

Obama is known as an avid basketball fan, having played in high school. His annual March Madness bracket predictions were a staple during his tenure in the White House.
