Man anonymously donates nearly $50K worth of food, supplies and generators to Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian devastation

A man purchased nearly $50,000 worth of supplies, including food and electric generators, from a Florida Costco on Wednesday to help aid those in the Bahamas who were affected by Hurricane Dorian.

Local Fox affiliate Q13 reported that the man, who did not wish to be identified, purchased 100 generators for about $450 each, in addition to canned goods and other nonperishable supplies.

{mosads}The anonymous man reportedly told CNN the supplies would be sent to Grand Bahama and Abaco, two islands hit hardest by the Category 5 hurricane this week.

“It’s important that we help each other out. It’s better than just sitting there,” he added. “You see a need and you fill it.”

The death toll related to Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas rose to 23 on Thursday as government officials and civilian rescue teams attempted to reach thousands of people stranded in their homes by heavy flooding and rainfall.

The storm has since been downgraded to a Category 2 hurricane. It is heading toward North Carolina and South Carolina.
