A college student from New York City was arrested for possession of medical marijuana and is being held in Russia, NBC News reported Monday.

Audrey Eliza Lorber had 19.05 grams of cannabis in her belongings when she was searched at Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg, according to a local court system document obtained by the network.

The document was issued on Sept. 2 but did not say when the alleged offense occurred, according to NBC News.

Rep. Max Rose (D-N.Y.), who represents the New York City borough of Staten Island, where Lorber lives, told the network he is working on her release.

“I’m working to help get Audrey home as soon as possible because no American citizen should be held in jail for a medical condition,” Rose said over the weekend.

Lorber attends Pace University in New York, the school confirmed to NBC.
