A wedding photo of a bride and groom wearing smoke masks has gone viral in the wake of Northern California's Kincade Fire, which has grown to cover more than 76,000 acres as of Wednesday afternoon.
Photographer Karna Roa captured the image of the couple Saturday as they stood in a Sonoma County vineyard with the orange glow of the fire in the background.
“It’s not a Hawaiian sunset,” Roa, the owner of KMR Photography, told local CBS outlet KPIX 5.
The image was taken on the couple's wedding day. Their guests evacuated hours before the wedding, while the newlyweds evacuated the next morning.
Roa told the news outlet that this is the fourth wedding she has shot in three years that was threatened by wildfires.
“As long as [the photo] can bring more attention to the wildfires and the problems that Sonoma and Napa County and Northern California are facing, then I would love more people to see it,” she told the news outlet.
The Chicago-based couple flew out to have their destination wedding ceremony and honeymoon in California, which is grappling with multiple fires due to dry conditions and high winds.
