NFL teams have been invited to attend a private workout for former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick this weekend, according to ESPN.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the workout session, which was reportedly arranged by the NFL, is scheduled to take place on Saturday in Atlanta and will also include an interview, citing a memo that was sent to every team in the league.

The NFL arranged this workout opportunity for Colin Kaepernick, and teams will have the opportunity to evaluate his readiness and level of interest in resuming his NFL career. His agents have said he wants to return to the NFL, and the league hopes this provides that chance.

“Earlier this year, we discussed some possible steps with his representatives and they recently emphasized his level of preparation and that he is ready to work out for clubs and be interviewed by them,” the memo reportedly states.

{mosads}“We have therefore arranged this opportunity for him to work out, and for all clubs to have the opportunity to evaluate his current readiness and level of interest in resuming his NFL career,” it adds.

Kaepernick also tweeted later on Tuesday night that he received word from his representatives “that the NFL league office reached out to them about a workout in Atlanta on Saturday.”

“I’ve been in shape and ready for this for 3 years, can’t wait to see the head coaches and GMs on Saturday,” he added.

Kaepernick was the first NFL player to kneel during the national anthem to protest racial inequality and police brutality before games during the 2016 season. Kaepernick, a free agent who led the 49ers to the Super Bowl in February 2013, has remained unsigned since that season.

For the past several years, Kaepernick has been a frequent target of President Trump and other conservatives over the protests. 

In 2017, he filed a grievance against the NFL, accusing owners of colluding to keep him from having a job. Earlier this year, he reached a settlement with the league over the grievance.

At one point, Kaepernick was the second-highest paid quarterback in the NFL.

He has frequently posted about his desire to be play again in recent months. Back in August, he even shared a video showing him working out, saying he is “still ready” for an NFL comeback after being “denied work for 889 days.”
