Five-year-old invited entire kindergarten class to adoption hearing

An entire kindergarten class showed up at an adoption hearing in Michigan to support their fellow classmate.

Michael Orlando Clark Jr., a 5-year-old boy in Kent County, Mich., invited his whole class to the Thursday hearing, according to the county’s Facebook page.

The photo shows Michael and his parents as they are addressed by a judge, with his classmates holding heart-shaped signs behind the trio.

“I love my daddy,” Michael told WZZM during an interview with his new legal father. “I love my daddy so much.”

The outlet reported that each of the classmates introduced themselves to Judge Patricia Garner, who officially gaveled in Michael’s adoption, telling her how much they care about their classmate.

“My name is Lily, and I love Michael,” another girl shared. 

“Sometimes their journeys have been very long, they’ve included miracle and change for the children and family and incredible community support as you’re able to see today in Michael’s adoption hearing,” Garner told WZZM.

“His whole kindergarten class and school being here to say ‘We love you,’ and ‘We support you’ and ‘We’ll be here not only today but in all the years in the future,’ ” she continued.

Michael’s kindergarten teacher said the class began the school year “as a family.”

“Family doesn’t have to be DNA, because family is support and love,” she added, according to WZZM.

Michael was one of 37 children to be adopted during Kent County’s 23rd annual adoption day, according to a post on its Facebook page.

“It’s Adoption Day at the Kent County Courthouse,” the county shared. “Thirty-seven children are being lovingly and officially welcomed by their families. There is not a dry eye in Judge Patricia Gardner’s courtroom.”
