Former New Hampshire Attorney General Kelly Ayotte (R) is building a lead over Rep. Paul Hodes (D-N.H.) in that state's open Senate race, according to a new poll.

The American Research Group poll shows Ayotte leading Hodes 41-34, with 25 percent of voters undecided. Both candidates get similarly strong majorities among members of their own party, but Ayotte leads 34-17 among "undeclared" voters.

Ayotte led a July Research 2000 poll by one point and a June University of New Hampshire poll by four points.

It is the second bit of good news in two days for Granite State Republicans, who Wednesday learned that former Rep. Charlie Bass (R-N.H.) is taking steps to run for his old House seat, which Hodes took from him in 2006.
