Former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee will be speaking at an event for the Conservative Party in upstate New York, while the party attempts to defeat a Republican in a nearby special election.

Huckabee’s presidential primary foe, former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.), has already backed Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman over GOPer Dede Scozzafava in the race, and now Huckabee’s efforts could bolster Hoffman too.

The dinner is being held Oct. 27 in Syracuse, which is just outside the 23rd district’s western border. Three counties in the 23rd are participating.

It's not clear whether there is any connection between the special election and Huckabee's speaking engagement.
