Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) said Sunday that she would be the “unconventional” Supreme Court nominee for whom some lawmakers are looking.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Pat Leahy (D-Vt.) recently said he hopes the next Supreme Court pick is from “outside the judicial monastery.”

{mosads}Granholm, who is on President Barack Obama’s short list to replace retiring Justice John Paul Stevens, repeated that line during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” and said she was vetted during the last nomination process, when Obama chose Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

“It’s safe to say that someone like me would be an unconventional nominee” considering past picks, she said.

Obama has said he will make his decision by the end of next month. A number of lawyers and judges are on his short list, in addition to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

Granholm declined to openly push for her nomination.

“It’s an honor to be on the the list, but there are a lot of great people on it too,” she said.
