Shopping malls may be a little less crowded today than in previous years, according to a new ABC poll.

Half of Americans plan to spend less on their holiday spending this year, the poll found. That amount of cutbacks has only been reached twice since 1985.

Economic analysts are sure to look at the strength of holiday sales as a sign of where the economy's going. The Commerce Department announced this week that consumer spending increased slightly in October, but that would undoubtedly be overshadowed by a slow holiday season.
