Embattled Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer will hold a conference call at 1:15 p.m., with his future as chairman the likely topic.

The St. Petersburg Times reports that Greer is "expected to" resign his post, with state Sen. John Thrasher, a former state House speaker, set to take over.

Such a switch could have ramifications on the state's GOP Senate primary. Greer is close to Gov. Charlie Crist, while Thrasher is an ally of former Gov. Jeb Bush, whose supporters have been partial to Marco Rubio. Bush actually cut an ad for Thrasher in his special election campaign last year.

The state party is likely to stay neutral, but having the chairman as a friend is always nice. And Crist, who would choose Greer's replacement, might not have as strong an ally in his replacement.
