GOP staffers don't want people to read Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele's new book, Steele said.

In the latest and arguably most aggressive shot in the all-but-public battle between Republican staffers in Congress and the RNC chairman, Steele lashed out at his critics.

"This book is a book a lot of those staffers who are trying to get the chairman on message or muzzle the chairman, it’s a book they don’t want you to read," Steele said in an interview with the Christian Broadcast Network's (CBN) Brody File, which was posted Friday.

"They don’t want you to read this book because a guilty conscience is a funny thing," Steele added.

His book is Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating the Obama Agenda.

Republican staffers in Congress held a conference call with RNC staff on Thursday to discuss reining in Steele, whose off-the-cuff remarks during a media tour to promote his new book have stoked GOP establishment dyspepsia.

Steele acknowledged some of the discord in his CBN interview.

"Let’s just say I’ve been in a little bit of trouble," he said, "but I don’t care because I didn’t write this for them.”
