The latest poll in the race for the late Sen. Edward Kennedy's (D) seat has Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley (D) leading Republican state Sen. Scott Brown 49-41.

Coakley and Brown have been neck and neck in other independent polling. This survey, done for the liberal website Blue Mass Group and conducted by Research 2000, shows Coakley doing better among independents than in other polls.

While Brown has led that group with 60 percent or more in other polls, he beats Coakley 49-36 in this one.

Late polls will be all over the place in this special election, as they were recently in the special House election in upstate New York. They're useful as a measuring stick, but predicting turnout in this race will be very difficult for any pollster.
