House Republicans intend to press forward with a resolution to permanently force Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) out as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

House Republicans still intend to seek a vote on Rangel's future despite the veteran lawmaker having announced Wednesday morning that he would take a leave of absence from that position pending the conclusion of an ethics investigation.

Republicans had sought to offer a privileged resolution to force out Rangel, and it appeared that many centrist Democrats would join with GOP lawmakers on that vote, likely forcing Rangel's hand this morning.

It's not clear how that resolution might fare after Rangel's announcement.
