Republicans went on the offensive Wednesday against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for the ethics problems recently plaguing House Democrats.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) debuted a new TV ad today, accusing Pelosi of failing to live up to her promise to lead "the most ethical Congress in history."

The 30-second ad, titled "Pelosi's Failure," comes in the aftermath of ethics inquiries into behavior by Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.).

"The recent sexual harassment allegations against Democrat Congressman Massa serves as a stark reminder that Democrats have largely failed the American people and that their pledges of responsibility were nothing more than lofty populist campaign rhetoric," RNC Chairman Michael Steele said in a statement accompanying the ad.

The ad criticizes Pelosi of defending Rangel for "nearly two years" in the wake of accusations that the New York congressman accepted reimbursements for trips to the Caribbean and failed to pay taxes.

Rangel stepped down from his position as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee earlier this month.

The ad also attacked Pelosi for referring to accusations that Massa had sexually harrassed members of his staff as "a rumor."
