Beau Biden, the Democratic attorney general of Delaware, was hospitalized for undisclosed reasons.

"Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden is at Christiana Medical Center undergoing treatment at present," the vice president's office said in a statement. "He is alert and awake, and communicating with his parents and his wife, who are with him. We will provide more details as they become available."

Beau Biden has served as a captain in the Army Reserve and was deployed to Iraq, from which he returned in September of 2009.

He was also long rumored to be a Senate candidate for the seat his father had resigned to assume the vice presidency, though Biden passed at the chance to run this year.
