Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), one of the earliest backers of Rand Paul, says he's "going to talk to Rand" about his comments opposing parts of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Think Progress chased down DeMint on Thursday to press him on what's become the story of the day:

"I’m going to talk to Rand about his positions," DeMint said, adding that he himself supports the Civil Rights Act.

To be exact, Paul never said that he would have voted against the legislation, but did say he opposed portions that forbid private businesses from discriminating. Paul put out a statement today clarifying that he supports the legislation as a whole.
