Republican National Committee Chair Michael Steele announced on Thursday that Gentry Collins will be the committee's new political director.

Collins is a long time political operative with deep ties to Iowa. An Ames native, Collins ran former President George W. Bush's Iowa campaign in 2004 and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign in the state last year.
