Now here's an idea: A Wisconsin state senator has proposed saving the state money by getting rid of the lieutenant governor and secretary of state positions.

State Sen. Alan Lasee, a Republican, said the positions are a waste of money, according to the Associated Press.

"In this economic climate, it is not fiscally prudent to continue wasting taxpayer resources on offices that serve no purpose," LaSee said.

Needless to say, Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton, a Democrat, wasn't impressed. "Lawton wishes Senator Lasee would focus more of his energy on job creation," Ben Nuckels, Lawton's chief of staff, said in a statement.

Wisconsin's secretary of state is also a Democrat.
