The growth on his lung was not cancerous, Johann's office said, and the senator plans to return to work on March 16.

"Stephanie and I are grateful beyond words for the outpouring of support and prayers," Johanns said in a statement. "I truly believe the many prayers said for us were answered. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome of the surgery and I am working my way back to a full recovery. My staff is doing a great job of keeping me up to date and I'm anxious to rejoin them and my colleagues to work on the many important matters facing our state and nation."
