Auto Bailout Is Really About Bailing Out People (Rep. Al Green)
The auto bailout is really about bailing out people, and the people of this country, to a certain extent, have paid their taxes and they’re concerned about how their taxes are going to be spent. I think that’s a legitimate concern for the American people, but I do think, with the proper strings attached, we can bail out the people — some 2 million — who may lose their jobs or who would have to receive unemployment compensation of some kind. I think it’s important that we not lose sight of the fact there are people involved in this. The American economy is at risk; 2 million people out of work will only exacerbate the circumstance that causes the economy to be at risk.
