I don’t see any way we can leave without funding the government, funding the war for an adequate period of time, passing the AMT patch, and finally, avoiding the cut on Medicare reimbursement.

I think that the Democrat leadership is in a bit of a pickle in that they can go it alone and send several more bills up to the president to be vetoed but I think the public is getting tired of them running it the same way.

Or – and this would be difficult – they would need to sit down with the president and work through each of those issues. The last option is difficult because just like Republicans, when we took power in ’94, in that first year it was hard to understand that the president still has the veto. I’m convinced they could avoid the do-nothing Congress label if they were to sit down with the president and find a solution.
