This week, five local law enforcement agencies in Northeast Minnesota received grants from the Department of Homeland Security to purchase new hi-tech night vision and video surveillance equipment.  Brainerd Police Chief John Bolduc tells my office that thermo-imaging device his department will purchase will greatly aid in search and rescue operations.  Other department will use these grants to upgrade their radio systems so they can communicate more effectively during emergencies.

This is a wise investment of public dollars.  The Department of Homeland Security's Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program makes certain that small communities are able to buy new hi-tech tools necessary to do their jobs more effectively.  Homeland security begins at home, it is our job to give our first responders the tools and training they need to get the job done.
