Critics often fail to realize that rural areas, like Wyoming, are also at risk from terrorist attacks. Wyoming is the largest net exporter of energy in the United States. Our energy powers the nation and is crucial to maintaining our nation’s strong economy. If folks don’t believe that our rail lines, transmission lines, refineries, and pipelines are not targets, they need to think again. Protecting rural states like Wyoming will always be critical to securing our nation’s resources and well being.

For years now, states like New York and California have used Wyoming as the poster child for wasteful homeland security. It’s easy to play with the numbers and mislead the public by leaving out the actual dollar amount that Wyoming receives. My state stands to receive only $10 million out of $3 billion in homeland security funding. Wyoming makes that money go a long way unlike many of our urban counterparts.
