House approves bill allowing extended FBI term

President Obama asked Congress earlier this year for an extended term in order to provide continuity in the agency just weeks after the death of terrorist Osama bin Laden, and in light of the coming 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Under the bill, Mueller’s term would expire Sept. 4, 2013.

The House also considered another noncontroversial bill Monday evening, but a vote on this bill is expected Tuesday.

Members considered H.R. 1383 as amended by the Senate, which would restore increased funding for veterans’ education payments that has been reduced in some cases under a prior law setting a cap on veterans’ reimbursement. Members from both parties agreed that this unfairly hurt veterans who enrolled in more expensive schools under the prior law, only to see their subsidies reduced.
