Reid: Cybersecurity and defense authorization bills are next in the Senate
Reid said he spoke with President Obama about the need for a cybersecurity bill, earlier in the day.
{mosads}“The president believes the cybersecurity bill is one of the most important things facing this country now,” Reid said.
The Senate tried to pass the Cybersecurity Act of 2012 this summer, but several Republicans pulled support for the bill after the U.S. Chamber of Commerce complained that it put too many requirements on the private sector.
Reid said he hoped that Republicans and the Chamber of Commerce have changed their minds now that the election is over.
“The Chamber of Commerce is just a front for the Republican Party now,” Reid complained.
Reid said the Senate would move onto cybersecurity and the defense authorization after a vote is held on the Sportsmen’s Act.
The Sportsmen’s Act, introduced by Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), would increase access to federal land for hunters and fishermen while also supporting conservation measures.
