Reid files resolution to authorize force against Syria

{mosads}“As we know, many, many people have been killed with this, including almost 500 children,” Reid said in a pro forma session Friday.

The resolution, which was approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday, would authorize a limited 60-day strike with the option to extend it an additional 30 days.

Sen.
John McCain (R-Ariz.) amended the resolution by inserting language that
would call for the administration to change the military equation in
the country to help end the conflict.

Reid commended Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) and ranking member Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) for securing a bipartisan committee vote of 10-7 on the resolution.

“They set a tremendous amount of cooperation and bipartisanship for this Senate,” Reid said. “I admire both of these good men for the work that they’ve done and the leadership that they show in allowing us to be at the point where we are now in this difficult situation.”
