GOP senators see glimmer of hope in bipartisan ‘jobs’ bills
“Maybe we are making some progress here,” McConnell said, hailing bipartisan support for a Republican measure that would eliminate a 3 percent withholding tax and for a Democratic amendment that would create tax incentives for businesses to hire veterans.
“This is just the kind of thing we have been calling for, just the sort of thing we should be doing a lot more of around here,” he added.
Brown, a centrist, also declared his support for the bill, H.R. 674, and for the Democratic amendment regarding veterans and said he hoped their passage would signal a change in the Senate’s tone.
“If we can do these two things, repeal the 3 percent withholding and help our veterans in one day, potentially one week, maybe it will usher in a new era of good will,” Brown said.
