Senate passes bill ensuring military pay during shutdown

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) passed the bill through a unanimous consent agreement.

{mosads}Lawmakers need to reach an agreement by midnight on legislation to fund the government, otherwise it would shutdown.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who supports H.R. 3210, said that Reid’s move makes it more likely that the government would shut down this evening.

Lawmakers are still at an impasse on how to keep the government funded.

Earlier Monday, the Senate voted to again remove House language related to ObamaCare from a continued spending resolution.

The House continuing resolution (CR) would fund the government through Dec. 15. It would delay the individual coverage mandate and the insurance exchanges — which are set to launch on Tuesday — and eliminate a 2.3 percent tax on medical devices.

But Democrats have said they want a “clean” CR to prevent a shutdown.
