Senate names budget conferees

The Senate appointed conferees late Wednesday night to the budget conference that was formed as part of a larger deal to reopen the government and avert default.

All of the Senate Budget Committee members were named to the conference. Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray (D-Wash.) will co-chair the conference with her House counterpart, Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.). The two plan to meet for breakfast Thursday morning to kick off negotiations.

In addition to Murray, Democratic Sens. Ron Wyden (Ore.), Bill Nelson (Fla.), Debbie Stabenow (Mich.), Bernie Sander (I-Vt.), Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.), Mark Warner (Va.), Jeff Merkley (Ore.), Chris Coons (Del.), Tammy Baldwin (Wis.), Tim Kaine (Va.) and Angus King (I-Maine) were appointed.

{mosads}Republican Sens. Jeff Sessions (Ala.), Chuck Grassley (Iowa), Mike Enzi (Wyo.), Mike Crapo (Idaho), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Pat Toomey (Pa.), Ron Johnson (Wis.), Kelly Ayotte (N.H.) and Roger Wicker (Miss.) were also appointed to the conference.

The House also named its conferees Wednesday evening.

There is a nearly $90 billion difference between the two budgets and the conferees will have only until Dec. 13 to report back to Congress.
