Senate committees are laying the groundwork for the budget next week.

Sanders, the ranking member of the committee, said Democrats will likely offer “very strong amendments” during markups next week.

Meanwhile, the Appropriations Committee has a full slate of budget meetings scheduled, with Agriculture Secretary Thomas Vilsack expected to testify Tuesday, Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx expected to testify Wednesday and Secret Service Director Joe Clancy expected to testify Thursday.

Senators will also look into border security and immigration, as the Obama administration continues its immigration battles in court.

A subcommittee for the Senate Judiciary Committee will look at “reigning in amnesty” during a hearing Thursday to be chaired by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a chief critic of Obama’s immigration policy. The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will also hold a hearing Tuesday on how to secure the southwest border.
