The new wave of people enrolling in employer-based health insurance because of ObamaCare raises the likelihood that employers will charge workers a higher share of their healthcare costs, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The healthcare law requires everyone to carry health insurance, which means that some people who have offers of coverage at their work will choose to accept them for the first time.

The Wall Street Journal reported that, in tandem with the rising cost of healthcare generally, this trend would prompt some employers to pass along new expenses to their workers in the form of high-deductible plans or higher premiums.

Employers are already bracing these options as healthcare costs become increasingly unpredictable year to year. The share of people receiving employer-based health insurance has been on the decline since the 1980s.
