The White House has received “more than 40” surveillance reform recommendations from an advisory panel and will review the recommendations in the coming weeks.

“We expect our overall internal review to be completed in January and the President thereafter to deliver remarks to outline the outcomes of our work,” Caitlin Hayden, a White House spokeswoman said in a statement Friday.

{mosads}“At that time, we will make public the Review Group’s full report and other conclusions of our work.”

According to reports, the advisory panel was set to recommend restraints on NSA programs that collect bulk information about Americans, though it’s unclear what those restraints are based on competing reports from The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

The panel’s recommendations also included dividing up the role of the NSA chief into a civilian NSA Director and a military head of U.S. Cyber Command, a military hacker unit, according to reports.

The White House said Friday that it does not intend to divide the role.

Hayden said the White House “will be reviewing the Review Group’s report and its more than 40 recommendations as we consider the path forward, including determining which recommendations we will implement, which might require further study and which we will choose not to pursue.”
